The three main types of wind power equipment – wind turbines, windmills, and wind pumps - all convert wind into a type of energy. Wind turbines utilize moving air to generate electricity through the use of blades; while a windmill converts wind to rotational motion using adjustable vanes called sails. A wind pump lifts water from a well that is run by a windmill. Wind power equipment is often found in locations where electricity is not available or is very expensive. Currently China is the largest manufacturer of wind power equipment in the world.
